Job Summary

The Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) will work closely with enterprise customers in Riyadh to design, build, and deploy production systems using Telnyx’s global network technologies including voice, messaging, AI, and wireless. This role involves technical discovery, architecture design, proof of concept development, and ensuring successful production launches.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate directly with enterprise customers to understand their communication workflows and AI integration challenges.
• Develop and implement custom solutions such as AI Voice Assistants and Telnyx APIs including Voice, Messaging, Fax, Wireless, and WebRTC.
• Operate open-weight large language models (LLMs) in customer environments using Telnyx Inference or self-hosted stacks for air-gapped or sovereign-cloud needs.
• Deploy and manage LiteLLM as a model gateway to unify OpenAI-compatible interfaces with routing, load balancing, and rate limiting.
• Implement observability and governance for LLM usage including cost tracking, caching, logging, and guardrails.
• Set up production observability with metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and alerting tools to monitor system health.
• Design model routing strategies for real-time voice workloads balancing latency, cost, and quality with fallback mechanisms.
• Lead proof of concepts, pilots, and production launches, maintaining engagement until solutions are live and stable.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• At least 3 years of experience building and shipping production software with on-call and debugging responsibilities.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages including Python, Node.js/TypeScript, and Go.
• Understanding of production challenges related to model deployment such as rate limits, timeouts, streaming, and concurrency failure modes.
• Experience deploying containerized services on Kubernetes with secrets management and configuration upgrades.
• Familiarity with observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Graylog, or ELK and knowledge of monitoring and alerting practices.
• Experience with high-concurrency systems such as Kafka or message queues and handling related issues like consumer lag and backpressure.
• Ability to build APIs from scratch including OpenAPI specs, REST/GraphQL design, authentication, rate limiting, and versioning.
• Exposure to SIP, WebRTC, or real-time voice/messaging systems.
• Self-sufficient with strong engineering judgment and customer-facing experience including technical discovery and executive presentations.
• Fluent in English and Arabic with excellent communication skills for technical discussions and troubleshooting.
• Based in Riyadh or willing to relocate; role involves hybrid work and travel across Saudi Arabia and the GCC.
• Legally authorized to work in Saudi Arabia or eligible for sponsorship.
