Job Summary

The Engineer Principal (FIDIC Engineer) acts as the Engineer under the Contract and the Employer’s senior representative for major infrastructure and construction projects, leading contract administration and project delivery through all phases.

Responsibilities

• Administer contractual obligations, certifications, instructions, claims, variations, and time extensions under FIDIC Contracts.
• Provide strategic leadership during project delivery, commissioning, handover, and defects liability stages.
• Oversee project controls, schedule performance, risk management, and milestone delivery.
• Lead commercial and contract management including payment certification, claims evaluation, and dispute avoidance.
• Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) standards.
• Manage contractors, consultants, and stakeholders to facilitate effective collaboration and execution.
• Monitor project performance and advise on contractual, commercial, schedule, and risk issues.
• Lead project closeout, testing, commissioning, handover, and defects management activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Architecture, or related field; Master’s Degree preferred.
• Professional accreditation such as Chartered Engineer (CEng), PE, PMP, MRICS, MCIOB, or equivalent.
• At least 20 years of experience delivering major infrastructure, engineering, or construction projects.
• Experience as a FIDIC Engineer, Engineer’s Representative, Contract Administrator, Project Director, or similar senior role.
• Extensive knowledge of FIDIC Red, Yellow, and Silver Book contracts, including contract administration, claims, variations, extensions, and payment certification.
• Strong expertise in project controls, commercial management, construction delivery, and stakeholder management.
• Experience managing contractors, supervision consultants, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Required Middle East project experience.
• Experience through commissioning, handover, and defects liability phases.
• Highly desirable experience in dispute avoidance and resolution under FIDIC contracts.
