Job Summary

This role involves independently reviewing mechanical design deliverables for data centre facilities to ensure technical accuracy, compliance with codes, and alignment with project requirements from concept to construction stages.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate mechanical design submissions at all project stages and provide detailed, actionable feedback within set deadlines.
• Analyze cooling load calculations, precision cooling layouts, pipework, fire fighting, HVAC ductwork, and equipment specs against project and industry standards.
• Review fire suppression, plumbing, and drainage designs for completeness and compatibility with building and mechanical systems.
• Ensure designs meet Tier classification standards, resilience configurations, and PUE targets outlined in the project brief.
• Check mechanical coordination across disciplines, identify spatial conflicts and interface gaps, and verify cross-discipline coordination.
• Review BIM models and coordination reports to confirm mechanical systems meet required LOD and that clash detection is resolved before IFC issuance.
• Monitor open review comments, assess contractor responses, and maintain a register of technical issues.
• Participate in design review meetings and workshops as the PMO’s mechanical technical representative, preparing minutes and action trackers.
• Support construction phase by reviewing shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, FAT/SAT procedures, and commissioning plans, flagging deviations and non-conformances.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
• 8–12 years of mechanical engineering experience in data centers or mission-critical facilities, with consultancy design experience.
• In-depth knowledge of data center mechanical systems including precision cooling, diesel generators, BMS, drainage, fire suppression, and HVAC.
• Familiarity with Tier classification standards (TIA-942, Uptime Institute), resilience design, and PUE benchmarking.
• Proficient in reviewing mechanical design packages using AutoCAD, Revit MEP, ETAP, or similar tools, including calculation report analysis.
• Working knowledge of BIM coordination tools such as Revit and Navisworks to review federated models and LOD compliance.
• Comprehensive understanding of standards including IEC 60364, BS 7671, NFPA 70/75, ASHRAE A2, and local regulations.
• Strong written communication skills for producing clear review comments and technical correspondence.
