Forward Deployed Engineering Manager

Job Summary

This role leads and develops a team of senior engineers and AI practitioners embedded in strategic customer environments, managing team performance and delivery outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop senior engineers and AI practitioners to foster a high-performance, collaborative culture.
• Manage team performance including goal setting, feedback, career development, and talent planning.
• Ensure delivery excellence across multiple forward-deployed customer engagements aligned with success criteria.
• Set technical direction and architectural guidelines in collaboration with Chief Experts and technical leads.
• Serve as a senior escalation point for delivery risks, team challenges, and customer issues, resolving them decisively.
• Build relationships with senior customer stakeholders and SAP leadership to advocate for team resources.
• Recruit, hire, and onboard engineering talent in AI, data, and software engineering disciplines.
• Collaborate with product, go-to-market, and regional leadership to align team capabilities with strategic priorities.

Requirements

• Experience leading and managing senior engineering teams with a focus on high performance and inclusivity.
• Strong technical background in AI, machine learning, data engineering, or software engineering.
• Understanding of forward-deployed or customer-embedded delivery models and managing complex customer engagements.
• Problem-solving skills and design thinking with ability to balance strategic and hands-on delivery.
• Ability to develop talent, navigate organizational complexity, and align cross-functional stakeholders.
• Experience working in an Agentic AI context and shaping AI agent applications in teams and customer settings.
• Experience hiring and scaling engineering teams across regions with a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills with engineers, executives, and customers.
• Familiarity with SAP AI technologies and enterprise AI deployment is advantageous.
