Senior Roads Design Engineer

Job Summary

The Senior Roads Design Engineer will work within a PMO on major highways and infrastructure projects in Riyadh, KSA, focusing on road and highway design at various stages.

Responsibilities

• Review road and highway drawings, specifications, and design reports at concept and detailed design stages, emphasizing coordination with other disciplines.
• Perform advanced highway engineering tasks including conceptual design alternatives and preparation of engineering details for highways and multilevel interchanges.
• Conduct cost–benefit analyses of road and interchange design options and provide recommendations for decision-making.
• Prepare and review pavement design calculations and road safety design elements ensuring compliance with standards.
• Review third-party design submissions and technical documents, preparing coordinated comments and bid analyses.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve design issues and support timely approvals.
• Prepare and deliver presentations on complex road and interchange design topics to internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead or participate in formal Road Safety Audits at key project stages and ensure audit findings are addressed in the design.

Must haves

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s Degree is desirable.
• 15 years of roadway design experience, especially in highways and complex multilevel interchanges.
• Proven skills in geometric road design including alignments, cross-sections, interchanges, ramps, and junction layouts per international and local standards.
• Strong understanding of pavement design principles and ability to review and optimize pavement designs.
• Knowledge of road safety engineering principles and integration of safety measures in design.
• Experience reviewing third-party designs and coordinating comments for approval.
• Experience working in multi-discipline team environments.
• Good presentation and communication skills.
• Experience conducting or contributing to formal Road Safety Audits.
• Possession of a recognized Road Safety Auditor certification or equivalent.

Nice to haves

• Previous experience in design consultancy and/or PMC/PMO.
• Chartered or similar status with an industry-recognized engineering body.
• Master’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• Experience managing large tasks or projects.
