Senior Data Engineer

Job Summary

The Senior Data Engineer at Petra Ride will develop adaptive pricing and dispatch systems and build a robust data foundation for the ride-hailing platform operating in Jordan.

Responsibilities

• Develop dynamic pricing models responsive to demand and supply, replacing static multipliers.
• Model price elasticity by zone, service class, time of day, and season.
• Implement guardrails such as caps, floors, gradual transitions, and explainability for pricing.
• Design and conduct experiments to evaluate impacts on conversion, cancellation, and driver earnings.
• Transition dispatch parameters from manual configuration to data-driven tuning using demand and supply signals.
• Measure dispatch performance against outcomes like time to match, no-driver-found rate, driver acceptance, and cancellations.
• Design and build a data lakehouse on AWS integrating trip, dispatch, pricing, and location data.
• Build reliable data pipelines, establish data quality, lineage, and freshness standards, and support analysts with well-documented datasets.

Must haves

• 5–8 years of experience in data engineering or a related field.
• Strong skills in SQL and Python, including production data pipeline development.
• Experience building and operating data pipelines on AWS.
• Solid knowledge of data modeling and warehouse design.
• Experience with geospatial data tools such as H3, PostGIS, or equivalent spatial indexing.
• Experience with Amazon Redshift.
• Experience deploying and maintaining data-driven models or systems in production.
• Ability to work within an existing distributed system.
• Capability to explain model behavior to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to haves

• Experience with Apache Iceberg or similar open table formats.
• Experience with AWS SageMaker, including SageMaker Unified Studio.
• Experience with Athena, Glue, or EMR.
• Experience with experimentation and A/B testing frameworks.
• Experience in marketplace, pricing, logistics, mobility, or ride-hailing sectors.
• Experience working with real-time or near-real-time data.
• Arabic and English communication skills.
