Job Summary

This consultancy supports UNICEF’s analysis on the intersections of climate, conflict, and child displacement, focusing on data review, spatial analysis, and report drafting related to displacement risks and child protection.

Responsibilities

• Review historical data on displacement, demographics, climate hazards, and urban growth to define scope and data limitations.
• Clean, harmonize, and analyze displacement data with age and sex disaggregation, avoiding double counting.
• Analyze future disaster displacement-risk models and clarify assumptions without projecting conflict displacement.
• Use GIS and spatial methods to identify areas where climate hazards, conflict, displacement, and child vulnerability overlap.
• Create publication-ready visualizations including maps, charts, and tables with source attribution.
• Conduct desk research to interpret quantitative findings on climate-conflict-displacement nexus and child impacts.
• Draft methodology and analytical sections of the report, especially on child displacement, climate/conflict, and water/WASH issues.
• Provide documented workflows, code, metadata, and references for handover; final report integration is excluded.

Requirements

• Advanced degree in geography, demography, statistics, data science, environmental science, development studies, or related field.
• Minimum five years of relevant experience in displacement data analysis, geospatial analysis, or risk modelling.
• Proven skills in age/sex disaggregation, population estimates, spatial statistics, and managing uncertainty.
• Knowledge of disaster and conflict displacement data, climate-risk evidence, and child-sensitive analysis; familiarity with IDMC datasets is advantageous.
• Experience in desk research, evidence synthesis, and drafting technical policy report sections.
• Ability to collaborate with multiple writers and partners, documenting sources, methods, and limitations.
• Strong GIS and reproducible analysis skills using tools like ArcGIS/QGIS and R/Python, plus clear data visualization capabilities.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
