Job Summary

The Biomedical Engineering Director is responsible for managing the department’s operations, including financial management, service contracts, data systems for medical equipment, and supervision of maintenance staff. The role involves structuring the department and coordinating service agreements and in-house activities.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee all activities of the Biomedical Engineering Department to ensure timely, safe, and cost-effective biomedical engineering services.
• Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and standards for safe and efficient medical equipment management.
• Manage the full lifecycle of medical equipment from assessment and procurement to maintenance and decommissioning.
• Implement preventive and corrective maintenance programs based on equipment criticality and clinical risk.
• Maintain accurate medical equipment asset records including inventory, maintenance history, warranties, and calibration data.
• Monitor department performance and equipment availability using KPIs such as downtime and repair times.
• Prepare and manage the departmental budget and capital plans prioritizing clinical needs and lifecycle costs.
• Provide technical advice on equipment requirements, procurement, and operational considerations to management and clinical departments.

Requirements

• BSc Degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related Engineering discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of experience as a biomedical engineer, preferably in a similar institution.
• At least 3 years of experience in a leadership role.
• Specialized training courses on medical equipment are a plus.
