Job Summary

The Principal Consultant – Data Governance leads governance for the data-and-AI vertical within a multi-vertical Strategy Execution & Value Realization Office, ensuring strategic initiatives are governed effectively with measurable benefits and architectural compliance. This role serves as the senior escalation point and primary governance liaison to executive stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage the operating model, governance structure, methodologies, templates, and tools for strategy execution governance in the data-and-AI vertical.
• Coordinate cross-vertical activities including portfolio visibility, dependency mapping, and escalation of issues beyond single vertical authority.
• Manage the governance framework for strategic initiative delivery, including stage gates, milestones, risk and issue management, budget oversight, quality control, and change-request governance.
• Lead governance collaboration with the Enterprise Architecture function, including Architecture Review Board participation and maintaining architecture decision records.
• Oversee executive reporting for the vertical through dashboards, portfolio reports, scorecards, and decision-support insights delivered on a set schedule.
• Define and implement the benefit-realization methodology, validating business cases and confirming value delivery before initiative closure.
• Create and maintain governance frameworks, methodologies, standards, templates, and playbooks, including KPI cascade tooling linking strategic themes to operational KPIs.
• Conduct periodic maturity assessments of governance, portfolio management, and value-realization capabilities, benchmarking against industry practices and guiding improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Data Management, Information Systems, Business, or Engineering.
• At least 8 years of relevant experience in data governance, enterprise/programme governance, or strategy execution advisory.
• 3-5 years experience at a principal or senior advisory level with direct executive stakeholder engagement.
• Proven experience designing and managing governance operating models for large, multi-workstream strategic portfolios.
• Experience engaging with Enterprise Architecture functions, Architecture Review Boards, and senior executives in complex organizations.
• Familiarity with portfolio and programme governance frameworks like MoP, MSP, P3O and data governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK.
• Knowledge of benefits realization methodology, KPI architecture design, and executive reporting.
• Skills in executive stakeholder engagement, escalation management, and cross-functional facilitation.
• Preferred certifications include CDMP (DAMA), PMP, PgMP, MoP; TOGAF is a plus.
