Solar Design Engineer

Job Summary

The Solar Design Engineer is responsible for creating technical designs of solar photovoltaic systems for industrial projects, including On-Grid, Off-Grid, and hybrid systems with energy storage. The role involves the entire design process from site and load assessment to producing drawings, calculations, and bills of quantities, adhering to technical standards and Jordanian regulations.

Responsibilities

• Develop preliminary and detailed designs for PV systems (On-Grid, Off-Grid, Hybrid) for industrial sites.
• Conduct site surveys and analyze industrial load profiles and electricity bills to determine system sizing.
• Perform energy yield simulations using PVsyst, including shading and loss assessments.
• Choose and size components such as modules, inverters, batteries, cables, protection devices, and mounting structures.
• Create single-line diagrams, layouts, and cable routing drawings using AutoCAD.
• Calculate voltage drop, cable sizing, protection, earthing, and lightning protection requirements.
• Prepare bills of quantities and technical specifications to support sales proposals.
• Prepare grid connection applications following EMRC requirements for distribution companies.
• Assist the site team during installation, testing, commissioning, and produce as-built drawings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or related field.
• At least five (5) years of hands-on experience in solar PV system design.
• Valid membership in the Jordan Engineers Association.
• Proficiency in PVsyst and AutoCAD; familiarity with HelioScope or SketchUp is a plus.
• Good understanding of IEC standards, EMRC regulations, and Jordanian electricity distribution company requirements.
• Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hybrid systems is advantageous.
