Tactical SATCOM Operator

Job Summary

The Tactical SATCOM Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining tactical and commercial satellite communication equipment, including satellite modems, antennas, and network hardware, to support communication missions primarily in tactical environments.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain satellite communication equipment such as Satellite Modems, LNB, IF cables, antennas, SSPA, ACU, UPS, and generators.
• Use Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment including power meters, spectrum analyzers, firebird, and voltmeters.
• Understand and work with LAN/WAN communications and network hardware like Cisco routers, Ethernet switches, bridges, gateways, and firewalls.
• Apply knowledge of routing protocols including RIP, EIGRP, BGP, and OSPF.
• Work with technologies such as MPLS, VPLS, MLA VPNs, Wireless, Riverbed, and Call Manager Express.
• Install, repair, and maintain Tactical VSATs, fiber optic cabling, and CAT5E/6 cable infrastructure including patch panels and racks.
• Configure TDMA and FDMA network configurations and integrate COMSEC equipment like KG-175D, KG-175 Classic, KG-250X, and KG-175E into tactical SATCOM systems.
• Provide training on tactical SATCOM equipment and submit Satellite Access Requests / Gateway Access Requests (SAR/GAR).

Requirements

• Active, in-scope US Government issued Secret Clearance.
• US Citizenship required due to contract requirements.
• Meet DoD 8140 qualification requirements for Network Operations Specialist (Basic) work role.
• Possess qualifying 8140 certifications such as Network+ or CND, or other DoD 8140-approved certifications.
• Four years of experience supporting installation, repair, troubleshooting, or maintenance of communications electronic systems or equipment.
• Four years of experience operating and maintaining antenna controllers, SSPA, LNB, fiber optic/coax/Ethernet cables, FDMA and TDMA modems in tactical environments.
• Experience with commercial and military satellite acquisition procedures and commercial TDMA/DAMA modems.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred or 4-6 years military experience with advanced commercial certification instead of education.
