Senior Traffic and Detour Engineer (PMC) – 100% (m/f)

Job Summary

The Senior Traffic and Detour Engineer (PMC) leads the technical review of traffic engineering designs, temporary traffic management plans, and road diversion proposals to ensure compliance with project and road authority requirements while maintaining safety and minimizing disruption during construction.

Responsibilities

• Review traffic engineering studies, impact assessments, temporary traffic management plans, and detour designs from consultants and contractors.
• Evaluate diversion alignments, junction layouts, lane configurations, traffic capacity, staging, signage, markings, barriers, lighting, and provisions for pedestrians and cyclists.
• Ensure safe access for residents, businesses, public transport, emergency services, and construction activities.
• Analyze traffic surveys, capacity analyses, modelling assumptions, and operational assessments related to proposed diversions.
• Coordinate with highway, utilities, structural, construction, and health and safety teams to resolve design and constructability issues.
• Engage with clients, road authorities, traffic police, consultants, and contractors to support permits, approvals, and planning.
• Issue consolidated review comments, track responses, and verify closure before recommending acceptance within PMC authority.
• Participate in road safety audits and ensure findings are addressed in updated designs and traffic management plans.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related field.
• At least 15 years of experience in traffic engineering, road design, temporary traffic management, and diversion planning.
• Experience reviewing traffic and detour designs for major road, infrastructure, or urban development projects.
• Previous role in PMC, supervision consultancy, or client representative capacity.
• Strong knowledge of traffic engineering standards, road safety principles, and local authority approval processes.
• Experience assessing traffic operations during phased construction and in constrained urban environments.
• Professional engineering registration or chartered status preferred.
• Relevant regional experience and familiarity with local road authority requirements preferred.
