Senior Staff Engineer, Model Accuracy and AI Performance

Job Summary

Qualcomm is seeking a Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer to lead the design, optimization, and deployment of machine learning frameworks and applications on Qualcomm AI platforms. This individual contributor role spans the full product lifecycle from research through commercial deployment, requiring hands-on technical leadership and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Research, design, develop, and implement machine learning framework components and graph optimizations for performance and accuracy on Qualcomm NPUs
• Analyze software requirements, assess design feasibility within constraints, and collaborate with architecture and hardware engineers to implement solutions for Qualcomm SOCs
• Identify system-level integration issues and interface with software development, integration, and test teams
• Work on latest GenAI techniques and adapt them for NPUs, architecting new techniques optimized for Qualcomm SOCs
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship through design reviews, architectural guidance, and hands-on collaboration

Must haves

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field with 12+ years Systems Engineering or related work experience (or Master’s with 5+ years, or PhD with 4+ years)
• Internal working knowledge of machine learning frameworks including PyTorch and TensorFlow
• Experience in model-level optimization using techniques like torch compile
• Expertise in model architecture with literature rationale and intuition
• 5+ years hands-on experience in C/C++ and Python development
• Experience with source code and configuration management tools, with required git knowledge

Nice to haves

• Experience with neural network architectures and ML compiler workload synthesis
• Prior working experience with hardware accelerators and hardware-software co-design
• Experience profiling software and applying optimization techniques
• Research mindset with expertise in software development for mobile and embedded platforms
