Senior Road Expert Highways Design

Job Summary

The Senior Highways Design Subject Matter Expert will serve as a technical authority on highway and road infrastructure projects, providing independent senior-level expertise to ensure designs are technically robust, compliant with standards, safe, constructible, and well-coordinated across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Act as the Client’s technical authority on highway and road design, providing expert advice on design principles, standards, and international best practice.
• Support development and application of highway design criteria, typical sections, standard details, and basis of design documents.
• Review and advise on design departures, exceptions, and non-standard solutions, identifying and managing associated risks.
• Undertake detailed technical review of highway design deliverables across all project stages, from feasibility studies through Issued for Construction designs.
• Ensure compliance with Kingdom of Saudi Arabia standards (CFP, SHC, MOT, MoMRA, SBC) and approved international standards (AASHTO, DMRB, where applicable).
• Provide technical input to resolve interfaces between highway design and traffic planning, utilities, structures, landscape, and construction staging.
• Support Safety in Design processes and road safety reviews, contributing to risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
• Provide technical oversight to highway design consultants and contractors, attend site visits as necessary, and support construction-related design queries.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
• At least 15 years of professional experience in highway and road design.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience on projects in the Middle East, with KSA experience strongly preferred.
• Proven experience on major infrastructure and master-planned developments.
• Demonstrated technical expertise in highway geometric design, pavement engineering, road drainage design, junction and interchange design, value engineering, and road safety design.
• Experience working with approving authorities and regulatory bodies in KSA or the wider Middle East.
• Proficient working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, BIM platforms, and AutoTURN or equivalent swept path analysis tools.
• Chartered Engineer or equivalent professional engineering registration (desired).
• More than 10 years’ experience in Middle East/KSA highway projects (desired).
• Direct experience supporting construction and delivery phases, including site-based coordination and resolution of construction-related design issues (desired).
