Senior Road Expert – Highways Design

Job Summary

Provide independent senior highway engineering expertise and technical leadership for complex infrastructure projects. Ensure highway designs are technically robust, compliant, safe, and constructible while supporting project delivery and programme objectives.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and assurance for highway design, ensuring compliance with standards, governance requirements, and industry best practices.
• Review and challenge design deliverables to identify risks and drive safe, coordinated, and constructible solutions.
• Support stakeholder engagement, authority approvals, and consultant oversight to enable effective project delivery.
• Deliver technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives to promote design excellence and value optimisation.
• Direct and manage design delivery, resources, and operational performance across projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
• Act as the focal point for design management, driving governance, compliance, and continuous improvement.
• Support project delivery, procurement, and business development activities.
• Promote technical excellence, capability development, and collaboration while supporting net zero carbon commitments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering; master’s degree preferred.
• Chartered membership or equivalent professional engineering registration preferred.
• Extensive highway design experience, including major infrastructure and Middle East projects.
• Minimum significant years of experience in highway and road design in the Middle East.
• Experience in the successful delivery phase of projects and programmes in the consultancy sector.
• Strong expertise in geometric design, pavements, drainage, interchanges, and road safety.
• Proficiency in highway design software and stakeholder engagement with regulatory authorities.
