Senior Material Handling Engineer – SPS / Set Part Supply (Automotive)

Job Summary

Lead the planning, design and industrialisation of Set Part Supply (SPS) solutions for automotive assembly operations. This role covers the complete SPS flow from material preparation and sequencing through to production line presentation, supporting new-product introduction and major logistics-process changes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement SPS strategies for automotive assembly and line-feeding operations.
  • Design complete SPS solutions including process flows, layouts, line-side presentation concepts and PFMEA documentation.
  • Define and specify material-handling equipment including tuggers, AGVs, flow racks, pick-to-light systems and logistics IT equipment.
  • Design SPS carts for each material flow with concepts, standards and CAD drawings.
  • Prepare equipment specifications and Requests for Proposal, and support procurement and vendor selection activities.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, production, logistics, IT, procurement and engineering stakeholders throughout implementation.
  • Manage the Plan for Every Part (PFEP) and ensure logistics layouts align with overall plant design.
  • Define and track project-equipment budgets, maintain technical documentation and ensure compliance with ISO standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering.
  • At least eight years of experience in logistics planning, material handling engineering or automotive intralogistics.
  • Demonstrated involvement in at least three automotive OEM SPS set-up and implementation projects.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Set Part Supply systems within automotive manufacturing environments.
  • Experience designing complete material flows from warehouse or supermarket areas to the production line.
  • Knowledge of PFEP, PFMEA, line feeding, kitting, sequencing and line-side presentation.
  • Experience specifying material-handling equipment and managing suppliers.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Fluent written and spoken English and ability to work with multidisciplinary and international project teams.
  • Previous experience with Toyota Production System or Toyota SPS methodology is an advantage.
