Senior Backend Engineer

Job Summary

Design, develop, and optimize complex backend systems and services within a microservices architecture. Own delivery of features end to end while ensuring scalability, security, performance, and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot in a microservices architecture
• Own end-to-end delivery of complex features from technical design through production
• Design and optimize database interactions, integrations, and inter-service communication
• Build and operate event-driven flows using Kafka and enterprise messaging
• Apply secure coding practices for authentication, authorization, encryption, and sensitive data handling
• Conduct code reviews and uphold engineering standards across the squad
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and implement durable fixes
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment, and observability on OpenShift/Kubernetes

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
• 4 years of backend engineering experience
• Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, REST API design, SQL, and Git
• Hands-on experience with containers, CI/CD, and distributed systems
• Payments or regulated financial services experience
• Contribute to technical design decisions and application architecture
• Identify technical debt and drive improvements to design and code quality
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across the chapter
