Senior Back-End Engineer

Job Summary

The Senior Back-End Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining scalable and secure backend applications primarily using PHP/Laravel and/or Node.js/NestJS. The role involves collaboration with multiple teams to deliver reliable software in an Agile/Scrum environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain scalable backend applications using Laravel/PHP and/or Node.js/NestJS following OOP, SOLID, and best practices.
• Develop and manage RESTful APIs, backend integrations, and business logic according to functional requirements.
• Design, implement, and optimize database structures and queries using MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and/or MongoDB with ORMs like Eloquent, TypeORM, or Prisma.
• Implement caching with Redis and manage background jobs and queues such as Laravel Queues, BullMQ, RabbitMQ, or Kafka.
• Create and maintain automated unit and integration tests using PHPUnit, Pest, or Jest and participate in code reviews.
• Integrate internal systems and third-party APIs with proper authentication and authorization.
• Work with Docker, support CI/CD pipelines, and follow Git-based branching workflows.
• Support and enhance Drupal-based applications including modules, theming, and site-building.

Must haves

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or related field.
• 5+ years of professional backend/server-side development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with PHP/Laravel and/or Node.js/NestJS, preferably both.
• Solid understanding of OOP and SOLID principles.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and working with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Hands-on experience with ORM technologies such as Eloquent, TypeORM, or Prisma.
• Experience with Redis and queue/background processing.
• Experience writing automated tests using PHPUnit, Pest, Jest, or equivalent.
• Strong Git skills, practical Docker knowledge, and CI/CD exposure.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams and understanding of application security basics.

Nice to haves

• Strong Drupal experience including module development, theming, and site-building.
• Exposure to microservices architecture and Kubernetes/container orchestration.
