Rolling Stock Engineer

Job Summary

Parsons seeks a Rolling Stock Engineer to ensure technical integrity of rolling stock on a rail project featuring at-grade, elevated, and underground tunnel sections with automatic passenger operation. The role involves design reviews, safety oversight, and system integration across signalling, platform screen doors, communications, and civil infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical advice to the project team on rolling stock design, development, and safety
• Define and develop interface specifications to support supplier design
• Establish and maintain adherence to project deliverables regarding safety, quality, cost, and schedule
• Analyse rolling stock RAMS performance and operation and maintenance requirements against design specifications
• Review and approve Design Build contractor rolling stock system and subsystem designs for compliance with client requirements
• Monitor rolling stock design specifications and standards for HVAC, door control, propulsion, auxiliary power, wiring, automatic train control, carbody, brakes, couplers, gangway, and bogies
• Coordinate rolling stock interfaces and integration with platform screen doors, signalling, telecoms, and power supply disciplines
• Conduct site visits and inspections to verify rolling stock works quality and progress

Requirements

• Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree, diploma, or professional qualification
• Minimum 12 years mechanical engineering work experience
• Experience on large, complex, and multidisciplinary projects
• Current or recent broad knowledge of the rail industry
• Significant technical experience in mechanical aspects of rolling stock design delivery
• Demonstrable experience in rolling stock design
• Strong understanding of railway approvals and standards including EN 50126, EN 50129, IEC 61133, IEC 1287, NFPA 130, UIC-615, UIC-515, EN 12663, and EN 15827
• Railway interiors and paneling experience
• Working experience with Bombardier or Siemens rolling stock
• Chartered Engineer status, knowledge of rail communication concepts, overhead traction power systems, client-facing skills, and excellent English language skills
