Job Summary
The GIS & Remote Sensing Specialist will conduct geospatial analysis and mapping to support humanitarian needs assessments and research across MENA missions from the Amman Multi-Country Office. The role involves satellite imagery analysis, cartographic design, and producing spatial analysis outputs including static and interactive maps.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to drafting assessment Terms of Reference focusing on analysis plans, mapping, and data management.
- Develop geospatial analyses to assist in daily assessment and field movement planning with operational maps.
- Collaborate with assessment teams to integrate GIS methodologies into proposals and research designs.
- Plan and implement satellite-based modeling techniques such as natural hazard susceptibility using tools like Google Earth Engine, Python, or R.
- Conduct hydrological and climate modeling using remote sensing and meteorological data as needed.
- Perform satellite-based analyses including rapid damage assessments, change detection, and hazard impact mapping using various sensors.
- Ensure geo-referencing of collected data for map production and develop GIS and remote sensing methods.
- Support GIS staff capacity building within IMPACT MCO and missions.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the humanitarian sector.
- Advanced skills in geospatial information management and spatial analysis.
- Proficient with ESRI software (ArcPro, ArcMap, ArcGIS Online), Google Earth Engine, and Microsoft Office including Excel.
- Knowledge of R, STATA, Python or equivalent statistical software is an advantage.
- Familiarity with remote sensing tools such as ESA SNAP, GRASS, HECRAS, SWAT.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and reporting skills.
- Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as international studies, development, humanitarian response, data science, or political science.
- Ability to work in complex and challenging security environments.
- Fluency in English is required.
