Job Summary
This role involves independently reviewing electrical design deliverables for data centre projects to ensure technical accuracy, compliance, coordination, and constructability from concept through construction stages.
Responsibilities
- Review electrical design documents at various stages including concept, schematic, detailed design, IFC, and shop drawings, providing structured feedback within set deadlines.
- Evaluate single-line diagrams, HV/LV distribution, switchgear specs, UPS and generator sizing, cable schedules, earthing, and protection coordination for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure designs comply with project briefs, Employer’s Requirements, electrical standards, and local regulations, reporting any deviations.
- Check designs against TIA-942 or Uptime Institute Tier ratings and resilience configurations like N+1 and 2N.
- Assess electrical system efficiency relative to project PUE targets.
- Produce clear, detailed review comments referencing relevant technical documents and standards.
- Identify and escalate critical design errors before construction and track their resolution to prevent issues on site.
- Review coordination among electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, architectural, and ICT/ELV disciplines to detect conflicts and missing information.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 8–12 years of electrical engineering experience in data centres or mission-critical facilities, focusing on consultancy design and technical review.
- Strong knowledge of HV/LV power distribution, switchgear, UPS, diesel generators, lighting, earthing, lightning protection, and BMS interfaces.
- Understanding of data centre rating standards, Tier requirements, resilience design, redundancy, and PUE benchmarking.
- Experience with electrical drawings and calculations using AutoCAD, Revit MEP, ETAP, DIALux, or similar tools.
- Ability to analyze calculation reports, verify assumptions, and identify technical issues.
- Working knowledge of BIM coordination with Revit and Navisworks, including federated model review, clash detection, and LOD compliance.
- Familiarity with standards such as IEC 60364, BS 7671, NFPA 70/75, TIA-942, and local authority requirements.
