DevOps Engineer – Intern

Job Summary

The DevOps Engineer Intern at COGNNA will gain practical experience working with senior engineers to manage multi-cloud infrastructure, maintain Kubernetes clusters, configure GitOps pipelines, and support cloud security operations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in provisioning and maintaining cloud resources on GCP and Alibaba Cloud with a focus on cost-efficiency and security.
• Manage IAM by reviewing access requests, updating roles, and maintaining service-account hygiene under supervision.
• Monitor resource utilization and costs, identify unused or over-provisioned resources, and set budget alerts.
• Support network management including VPCs, firewall rules, private connectivity, security patching, and compliance tasks.
• Track Kubernetes cluster health, resource usage, and troubleshoot pod scheduling, container crashes, and bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with developers on containerization best practices and participate in Kubernetes upgrades and maintenance.
• Onboard services to GitOps by drafting ArgoCD manifests, syncing policies, and monitoring application drift.
• Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines by integrating security scanners, linters, and tests within GitHub Actions workflows.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field.
• Basic understanding of cloud computing concepts (GCP, AWS, or Alibaba Cloud).
• Comfortable using the Linux command line and basic scripting in Bash or Python.
• Foundational knowledge of containers and Docker.
• Understanding of core networking concepts including IP subnets, DNS, HTTP/S, firewalls, and VPNs.
• Motivated to learn GitOps, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code with Terraform.

Nice to haves

• Exposure to Kubernetes through tools like Minikube, Kind, or k3s.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.
• Early experience with Terraform or infrastructure scripting.
• Hands-on experience from university projects, open-source contributions, or personal home labs.
