Job Summary
The Database Support Engineer is responsible for operational support of production databases, ensuring availability, performance, connectivity, backup and recovery, replication monitoring, and resolving database incidents. The role emphasizes hands-on operational tasks to maintain stability and reduce recurring issues.
Responsibilities
- Monitor the availability, health, and performance of databases.
- Conduct routine operational health checks on databases.
- Investigate issues related to database connections and connection pools.
- Oversee backup jobs and confirm their successful completion.
- Assist with database restore and recovery processes.
- Monitor database replication and detect synchronization problems.
- Analyze slow queries and performance degradation in databases.
- Review database logs to identify abnormal events and troubleshoot incidents.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or equivalent.
- Experience with Cloud SQL and/or managed database platforms.
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar relational databases.
- Skills in SQL troubleshooting and database availability monitoring.
- Understanding of backup and restore procedures and replication concepts.
- Ability to troubleshoot connection-pool issues and identify slow queries.
- Familiarity with database logs, diagnostic information, storage, and performance monitoring.
- Basic knowledge of database user/access administration and capacity management.
- Experience supporting high-volume transactional platforms.
- Knowledge of database monitoring and observability platforms.
- Database administration/support certification is advantageous.
- GCP Cloud SQL experience is preferred.
