Senior ITS Engineer

Job Summary

The Senior ITS Engineer will lead technical oversight and integration of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) within a major urban road network, ensuring alignment with Traffic Control Centers and related projects.

Responsibilities

• Provide program-level governance for all ITS activities across the program.
• Review and manage ITS scope including intersections, VMS/DMS, overhead structures, AID, ramp metering, ANPR, field devices, and Local Control and Support Centers.
• Evaluate contractor and system integrator proposals, shop drawings, material submissions, method statements, and system architectures.
• Ensure full integration of ITS systems with existing and future Traffic Control Centers and coordinate interfaces between projects.
• Oversee design and implementation of optical fiber communication networks covering backbone, distribution, access, redundancy, and routing.
• Review Functional System Design Documents, integration plans, testing and commissioning strategies, and operational readiness plans.
• Ensure compliance with international ITS standards, local authority requirements, and RCRC specifications.
• Coordinate interfaces between ITS and other disciplines such as traffic engineering, electrical, communications, civil, and structural.

Must haves

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communications Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• At least 15 years of experience in ITS planning, design, integration, and delivery on large urban road or highway projects.
• Extensive hands-on experience with urban ITS systems and architecture, including intersections, VMS/DMS, AID, ramp metering, ANPR, and field devices.
• Proven ability to review contractor and vendor technical proposals and complex multidisciplinary designs.
• Strong knowledge of ITS system integration, interoperability, cybersecurity, and data communications.
• Familiarity with international standards and protocols such as NTCIP, IP networking, ONVIF, and SNMP.

Nice to haves

• Experience on mega road or smart city programs in the GCC, preferably Saudi Arabia.
• Knowledge of traffic management centers, smart mobility platforms, and city-wide ITS integration.
• Understanding of cybersecurity requirements for ITS and operational networks.
• Professional certifications like PMP, PE, CCNA/CCNP, or equivalents.
