Senior Data Engineer

Job Summary

Intelmatix seeks a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and deliver an enterprise-grade, AI-ready Data Lakehouse in Riyadh. You will architect a secure, scalable data platform compliant with Saudi national standards, lead technical implementation, and mentor client teams through a collaborative co-build model.

Responsibilities

• Design and deploy a unified Data Lakehouse using Medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) and open table formats such as Delta Lake and Apache Iceberg on cloud infrastructure within Saudi Arabia.
• Build reusable, automated ingestion frameworks for batch and streaming data processing, handling both structured data from RDBMS and APIs, and unstructured data such as PDFs and policy documents.
• Implement automated data quality controls and end-to-end data lineage tracking frameworks to ensure completeness, uniqueness, and referential integrity.
• Optimize data processing workflows for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
• Monitor and maintain data systems, responding to urgent issues to ensure continuous operations.
• Ensure platform compliance with NCA and NDMO standards, implementing AES-256 encryption at rest, TLS 1.2+ in transit, Key Management Systems, and centralized audit logging.
• Design and deploy granular Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC) integrated with enterprise Identity Providers such as Active Directory.
• Lead knowledge transfer sessions, pair-programming with client engineers, create operational runbooks, and conduct failure simulations to prepare the client team for independent platform operation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of proven experience in Data Engineering, Distributed Systems, or Big Data Architecture, with at least 2+ years specifically leading Data Lakehouse or Cloud Data Platform implementations.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
• Strong expertise in designing data-intensive applications, complex data modeling, and schema design for enterprise environments.
• Deep, hands-on experience with distributed processing engines such as Apache Spark, Kafka, and Hadoop, and modern open table formats such as Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg, and Apache Hudi.
• Experience designing and building robust data pipelines using modern transformation and orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Prefect, and dbt.
• Proven track record with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL, NoSQL platforms such as MongoDB and Cassandra, and distributed SQL query engines like Hive and Trino.
• Proven experience deploying enterprise data solutions on major cloud providers within localized Saudi cloud regions; expertise in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is highly preferred, though experience with AWS or Azure is acceptable.
• Strong understanding of enterprise network security, Private Endpoints, Identity & Access Management (IAM), and cryptographic key management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and manage stakeholder expectations.
• Prior experience building data pipelines optimized for Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP), vector embeddings, or Knowledge Graphs and Ontologies is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with Saudi Arabian data compliance frameworks such as NCA CCC, NDMO, and SDAIA is highly preferred.
