NOC Tier II ( Network Operation Center Engineer )

Job Summary

The NOC Tier II role involves advanced troubleshooting, leading medium-scale network projects, and acting as the main escalation point for NOC and Tier 1 teams. The position requires resolving persistent performance issues in global LAN, WAN, and security systems and collaborating with Tier 3 engineers on design validation.

Responsibilities

• Perform in-depth diagnosis and resolution of critical network problems using packet capture, flow analysis, and protocol inspection.
• Lead site activations, technology migrations, and major firmware upgrades, managing all phases including implementation, testing, and rollback.
• Provide technical escalation support for Tier 1 and NOC analysts, mentor junior staff, and maintain documentation and runbooks.
• Review low-level design specifications with Tier 3 engineers to ensure feasibility and operational support.
• Manage firewall policies, site-to-site and remote-access VPNs, and IPS tuning for security implementation.
• Plan and execute changes following ITIL v4 Change Management procedures with proper impact assessments.

Must haves

• 3–5 years of progressive experience as a Network Engineer or senior technical specialist.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Network Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Current certification in CCNA, Fortinet Certified Professional (FCP), or JNCIA-Junos.
• Expert knowledge of BGP and EIGRP protocols.
• Advanced skills in switching technologies including HSRP/VRRP, spanning tree, and complex QoS.
• Experience with firewall configuration and policy management.
• Proficiency in Wireshark and network performance monitoring platforms.
• Ability to script in Python or Bash for network automation.
• Understanding of ITIL v4 Change, Incident, and Problem Management.

Nice to haves

• Certifications such as CCNP (Enterprise or Security) or ITIL v4 Foundation.
• Experience with Ansible, Netmiko, or NAPALM automation tools.
• Knowledge of SD-WAN or cloud networking platforms like AWS or Azure.
• Experience working with global multi-site networks.
