Engineer will design, modernize, and maintain integrations for a critical global identity and mobility platform, working with complex system-to-system connections across various technologies and environments.<\/p><h3>Responsibilities<\/h3><ul><li>Design and maintain secure and reliable integrations between distributed platforms and third-party systems using REST APIs, asynchronous messaging, secure file\/data exchange, and device interfaces.<\/li><li>Modernize legacy integrations into Java-based microservices within a distributed platform architecture.<\/li><li>Develop integrations across edge, data center, and AWS cloud deployment models.<\/li><li>Engineer solutions for resilience, observability, auditability, latency, and challenging network conditions such as intermittent or low bandwidth.<\/li><li>Integrate with government and commercial systems including identity and verification services, traveler data platforms, biometric and document-capture peripherals, and access-control systems.<\/li><li>Define interface contracts, schemas, versioning strategies, retry and idempotency behaviors, and certification\/test methods.<\/li><li>Troubleshoot issues across application, data, messaging, and network layers.<\/li><li>Collaborate closely with software, cloud, network, QA, field engineering, analytics\/observability, and security teams.<\/li><\/ul><h3>Must haves<\/h3><ul><li>Bachelor&#8217;s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent experience.<\/li><li>Minimum 12 years of experience in software engineering or systems integration.<\/li><li>Strong hands-on experience building Java-based distributed services.<\/li><li>Proven production experience with API integration and event-driven messaging.<\/li><li>Experience with one or more of RabbitMQ, Kafka, JMS, AMQP; MongoDB, Elasticsearch\/OpenSearch; or AWS deployment and operations in production.<\/li><li>Experience designing and supporting integrations in high-availability, mission-critical, or regulated environments.<\/li><li>Strong understanding of integration concerns including authentication\/authorization, certificate-based security, schema evolution, error handling and retries, observability, and supportability.<\/li><li>Experience modernizing legacy or monolithic integrations into service-oriented or microservices architectures.<\/li><li>Ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment with direct ownership of delivery outcomes.<\/li><\/ul><h3>Nice to haves<\/h3><ul><li>Experience with HashiCorp tooling, especially Consul, Nomad, and Vault, or similar platforms.<\/li><li>Experience with AWS-native services and infrastructure automation.<\/li><li>Familiarity with ELK, Grafana,
